Print a ring sizer
Our printable sizer has circles at every size and a strip to wrap round a finger: A4 or US Letter. Print it at 100 % (actual size) and check the 50 mm line with a ruler before you use it.
Measure a ring she already wears
Borrow a ring she wears on the right finger, ideally the ring finger of the left hand. Lay it on paper and draw carefully around the inside edge, or measure straight across the inside with a ruler in millimetres. Match the inside diameter to the chart below.
Finding it without asking
- Borrow a ring from her jewellery box for an evening and measure it as above. Check which finger she wears it on.
- Press the ring into a bar of soap or a piece of modelling clay to keep an impression you can measure later.
- Ask a close friend or family member, who may know or can find out without giving the game away.
- Compare her hands with yours: if her fingers look like yours, try your own ring on the matching finger.
If you are between sizes, choose the larger. Making a ring smaller is simpler than making it bigger.
Things that change a size
Fingers are bigger when warm and in the evening, and smaller when cold. Wide bands feel tighter than narrow ones, so go up half a size for a band 6 mm or wider. If her knuckle is noticeably larger than the base of her finger, choose the size that fits over the knuckle.

If it doesn’t fit
Most gold, platinum and palladium rings can be resized, and we resize for life. Rings with stones all the way round, tension settings and modern metals such as tungsten and titanium are difficult or impossible to resize, so it is worth being sure of the size before ordering one of those.
