Cleaning at home
Soak the ring for a few minutes in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid, then brush gently with a soft toothbrush, paying attention to the underside of the stone where lotion and soap collect. Rinse in clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
What to avoid
- Take your ring off for gardening, the gym, cleaning with chemicals and swimming in chlorinated water.
- Put rings on after hand cream and perfume, not before.
- Store each ring separately: diamonds can scratch other stones and metals.
Checking the setting
Every now and then, hold the ring near your ear and tap it gently. If you hear a stone rattle, or a claw catches on clothing, stop wearing it and bring it to us. We check claws and settings as part of lifetime care.
Resizing
Most rings in gold, platinum and palladium can be made larger or smaller, usually by one or two sizes. Some designs are harder:
- Rings with stones set all the way round cannot be resized in the usual way.
- Tension settings rely on the exact size of the band to hold the stone.
- Tungsten, titanium and other modern metals generally cannot be resized.
Renewing the finish
White gold plating, brushed and satin finishes and textures soften with wear. When your ring comes back for care we can re-plate, re-brush or re-polish it so it looks as it did on the day it arrived.
